        Division 2 - Maesglas Res 1 v 2 Felinfach

With the first team fixture being called off, all eyes were on the second team of the Blues, and a win against Felinfach was a must to avoid the possible dreaded drop against relegation. The game was a big disappointment for the home side, a loss against a young but not the best Felinfach side that has visited Maes Radley in years gone by, but to make matters worse it was poor showing on the Blues front.
After grafting to a good point last week against league leaders Pencader, there were hopes of bagging all 3 points, but even with a couple of 1st teamers  the Blues showed lack of fight in some departments, even before kick off the difference between the two sides was evident, a well organised Felinfach team had been warming up for a good 30 minutes where as the Blues just stood around and knocked footballs at the keeper, but the game started surprisingly well for Maesglas with the home side pinching the lead after being under pressure, a fine cross from Aled Rees found Ricky Holmes at the near post and his header finding the net, a well worked goal, which was probably the highlight of the afternoon,

The young Felinfach side that still have their sights on possible promotion, were well guided by experienced campaigner Richard Haywood, he pulled the strings in the middle of the park and he was the driving force behind the Fach win but the Blues just could not cope or handle his elusive running. The Blues on paper had a good side but just were not clicking, it was like a ship without a rudder though without any form of guidance, and within minutes though the away side were level, and after some decent efforts that went close for the away side it came as no shock when they extended their lead.

The Blues did fight back and were unfortunate to have a good goal chalked off for offside, a controversial decision at the time, as referee Angus Scourfield had awarded the goal, but after the linesman’s flag went up it came as no surprise that it would be cancelled out after a long discussion between the lino and the man in black.
At the end of the day the Blues deserved nothing, Felinfach were by far the better side and were worthy winners.
This was a poor showing from the Reserves, and from here on in the team need to raise their game as relegation will be seriously looming and to drop down to the lower tier will not be good for the better players who need to be playing at a higher level. Some of the older heads in the side as well as the managers need to start showing their qualities now too, as at time against Felinfach there were no leaders or talkers on or off the park.
The Reserves have a tough one again in the league  next week as they travel to play Aberaeron Reserves a game the Blues Reserves are well capable of winning, if things are done right. |
